INTRODUCTION

The Government through the presentation of the 2021 Budget on 6 November 2020 has allocated a total of RM5 million to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) to implement and succeed in the Micro Franchise and Affordable Franchise Development Program Owned. This program will be one of the main programs in an effort to attract more people, especially the B40 and M40 to venture into the franchise business.

KPDN as the national franchise industry development leader has announced the implementation of this program focusing on granting grants to develop more affordable franchise packages worth RM100,000 and below as well as micro franchise packages worth RM50,000 to the bottom further increases the number of franchise entrepreneurs (franchisees) from the B40 and M40 groups.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the implementation of this development program are:

  1. Provide job creation to the M40 and B40;
  2. Provide employment opportunities for the B40 and M40 to venture into the franchise business; and
  3. Expand the franchise business to the target group especially those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

DEFINITION OF MICRO FRANCHISE AFFORDABLE FRANCHISE

In line with the Government's intention to ensure that the benefits from the Micro Franchise and Affordable Franchise Development Program will have a significant impact on economic growth as well as open income generation opportunities to the target group, KPDN has outlines the definition and offerings of business packages as follows:

  1. Micro Franchise-offering business packages with a cost of RM 50 thousand and below to the B40 and M40 group who are interested in starting their own business as a franchisee.
  2. Affordable Franchise-offering business packages with a cost of RM100,000 and below to those who are interested in starting their own business as a franchisee.
