Introduction

The Business Development Division (BPP) was established on 1 April 2002 aimed at promoting the agenda of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) by promoting SMEs at domestic and international levels and establishing ethical business practices. In addition, the BPP also provides training to SMEs and to give due recognition to the traders involved in the distributive trade sector.

Objective

  1. Improve & strengthen the participation of Bumiputera SMEs in the distribution trade sector.
  2. Assist in creating market opportunities for SME products locally and abroad
  3. Create job opportunities in the distribution trade sector
  4. Help improve career image in retail sector.
  5. Give due recognition to businesses with excellent premises and demonstrates ethical values; and
  6. Coordinate and monitor the progress of modernization and development programs involving hawkers and small businesses in the economy.

Function

  1. Design, plan and implement programs to enhance and strengthen the participation of SMEs in the distribution trade sector;
  2. Design and implement development programs to create hawkers and small businesses community that are economically and socially established.
  3. Organize business recognition programs to promote a healthy and competitive business environment and to establish partnership between the Ministry and the industry;
  4. Conduct regular campaigns for tagging of Made-in-Malaysia logo to promote local-made products among industry and consumers; and
  5. Implement various courses / training / seminars for SME entrepreneurs / potential entrepreneurs to develop human capital and broaden the mindset of these groups.
